In this book for club and tournament players, Grandmaster John Emms explains the strategy and tactics of this dynamic and fashionable opening. Through the use of model games for both sides, the author provides a thorough grounding in the key ideas so players can quickly and confidently start to use the Scandinavian in their own games.

Product Description
In this book Grandmaster and opening expert John Emms produces a comprehensive but workable black repertoire against all of White's possible options in the Najdorf. The Najdorf is one of the most sharp, dynamic, and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favorite amongst the world's elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov.
From the Back Cover
The Najdorf Sicilian is one of the most sharp, dynamic and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favorite amongst the world’s elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov. From very early on, Black unbalances the game to a reach a position in which one can play for the win without exceptional risk.
The soundness of the Najdorf has never been seriously doubted, but some players can be put off by the ever-spiraling amount of theory amassed on this great opening. In Play the Najdorf: Scheveningen Style, however, Grandmaster and openings expert John Emms condenses this mountain to produce a workable black repertoire against all of White’s possible options. Emms concentrates on lines where Black adopts a very early ..e7-e6, thus establishing the well-known Scheveningen pawn structure.
Play the Najdorf explains an opening championed by Garry Kasparov; is written by a renowned openings theoretician; covers all of White’s main replies.

Starting Out: Queen's Gambit Declined by Neil McDonald

http://rapidshare.com/files/149360719/McDonald_Neil_-_Starting_Out_-_Queen_s_Gambit_Declined.djvu
Review: There aren't that many books on the QGD -- Marovic and Polugayevsky are the only authors that come to mind off the top of my head, and they're both somewhat dated. So there's definitely a niche for a book on the subject. The book under review is a godsend for a 1.d4 player like myself who wants a clear explanation of ideas. For instance, in the classical set-up (...c6, ...Nbd7, ...Be7), what does one aim for in the tabiya position that arises after 12....e5?
The book, as the author makes clear, doesn't cover every main line: it restricts itself to the Tartakower, the Lasker, the Exchange, the Classical, the Cambridge Springs, and the Bf4 lines. The author explains the ideas in each of these lines using games from both past and present. Every class player who plays or encounters the QGD will benefit from this, and even experts may pick up a few things.
In my humble opinion, mastery of QGD and QGA postions is essential for every chessplayer, regardless of whether he plays them or not.To this extent, the book belongs on every player's shelf.

Beating The Anti-King's Indians by Joe Gm Gallagher (December 1, 1996)

http://rapidshare.com/files/161979588/Gallagher__Joe_-_Beating_The_Anti-King_s_Indians.pdf | 9345 KB

Product Description
King's Indian chess players revel in do-or-die tactics, but
not every opponent wants to cooperate. Some want to bore the
pants off you with the Exchange Variation, or the London
System. Others go for your throat with the Four Pawns Attack,
while some simply confuse you with the Trompowsky. Take
heart, for GM Gallagher has provided you with all you need to
know.
This book provides a complete repertoire for King's Indian
players against all of White's attempts to avoid the main
lines. It shows how to defuse attacking systems such as the
Four Pawns, and gives you a full repertoire against the
Averbakh and h3 systems. It also offers aggressive lines
against the exchange variations, and recommended psychology
against unambitious opponents.

Pawn Structure Chess by Andrew Soltis (1976)

http://rapidshare.com/files/161556100/Soltis__Andrew_-_Pawn_Structure_Chess.1976.pdf | 9561 KB

Product Description
Some 250 years ago, the great Philidor wrote, "The pawns are the soul of chess." Although that statement is perhaps the most common cliche in the literature of the game, it is too often misunderstood.
Pawns are usually considered weak because of their limited range of movement. But the pawns' restricted mobility is precisely what makes them so important strategically: they form a semi-permanent structure -- often called a "pawn skeleton" -- that establishes the territorial lines of the coming battle and thus the nature of the battle itself. Understanding how pawns affect strategy is the subject of this important book. In it you will learn:
-- how to handle the characteristic pawn structure of each opening "family" and each major variation
-- how to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of pawn chains
-- when to exchange pawns in the center -- and when not to
-- how to cramp your opponent's position and what to do if your opponent cramps yours
-- how to create and exploit pawn "holes"...and much, much more, all copiously illustrated by complete games from actual play.

The solutions to these positions feature a wealth of practical advice and further discussion of endgame principles and the key theoretical points. This carefully worked-out training program will enable you quickly and painlessly to determine where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and thus set about correcting any faults.
All the main types of endgames are covered: pawn endings, minor-piece endings, rook endings and queen endings. Endgames are often highly tactical, and this is reflected throughout this book in exercises that require precise calculation, and in sections devoted to typical tactical themes.

The wealth of exercises throughout this book also make it an ideal endgame refresher course that will be of great benefit even to those who are already highly proficient in the endgame.

The Grünfeld is an exciting and dynamic answer to 1 d4, and has become very popular at all levels of chess. A major reason for this is that it has been a long-time favourite of the World’s strongest-ever chess player, Garry Kasparov, who used it many times in his numerous World Championship battles. The Grünfeld very much relies on the principles of the hypermodern school of chess: Black allows White to erect an impressive-looking centre on the assumption that in the long run it could prove to be more of a liability than an asset. Play often becomes very complex and tactical, one of the reasons the Grünfeld appeals to ambitious players.
Despite its attractions, some prospective Grünfeld players are discouraged by the necessity of needing to learn numerous different variations in such a complex opening. In Play the Grünfeld, however, opening expert Yelena Dembo circumvents this problem by producing a comprehensive and yet workable repertoire for Black, offering a solution against each of White’s tries, whether it’s a critical main line or a tricky sideline. After reading this book, you will have the required knowledge and confidence to begin playing the Grünfeld in your own games.

*Written by a renowned Grünfeld expert
*Covers all of White’s main tries
*Reveals the tactical and positional ideas for both sides

Yelena Dembo is a young International Master from Greece with numerous tournament successes to her name, including the bronze medal at the 2005 European Women’s Championship and one Grandmaster norm. She’s a renowned chess coach, who has taught students from over 30 countries. She’s also an experienced chess writer and a regular contributor to the quality publication Chess Informant. This is her first book for Everyman Chess.

Chess For Dummies by James Eade (2008)

http://ifolder.ru/8385761 (11.53 Mb)

Amazon.com Review
It was inevitable, thank goodness, that the Dummies series would give us an introductory chess book. The light touch is perfect to offset the sober aura of mystery that surrounds the game in many people's minds. And the extras that reach beyond the well-written move explanations, strategies, and pattern-recognition make the book a real winner. It won't take much playing for readers to appreciate the section on chess etiquette, for example, or the one on uncommon moves, subtitled, "The Ones That Start the Fights." Informative tips and amusing bits of trivia add to the fun. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Fundamental Chess Endings by Karsten Muller, Frank Lamprecht (2002)

http://rapidshare.com/files/165358212/ML_FCE.rar | 8865 KB

Product Description
In a major event in chess publishing, two German endgame experts have produced a masterly one-volume encyclopedia that covers all major endgames. This is the first truly modern one-volume endgame encyclopedia. It makes full use of endgame tablebases; where previous authors could only make educated guesses, Muller and Lamprecht have often been able to state the definitive truth, or get much closer to it. New time-controls involve competitive games being played to finish in one session, so it is especially important that chess players understand the key endgame principles this book provides comprehensive assistance for any players wishing to study the endgame. In addition to a feast of detailed analysis, the authors emphasize the practical side of endgame play, describing rules of thumb, principles and thinking methods. "Fundamental Chess Endings" is both the ideal endgame reference work, and a book that can profitably and enjoyably be read from start to finish.

About the Author
Karsten Muller is a young grandmaster from Germany, who competes regularly in the Bundesliga and in international events. He finished third in the German Championship in 1996, and was runner-up in 1997. He is a noted authority on both practical and theoretical endgames. Frank Lamprecht is also from Germany, and is an international master. He has been a chess trainer since 1983 and was also co-author (with Karsten Muller) of the highly acclaimed "Secrets of Pawn Endings."

Attacking the opponent's king is one of the most exhilarating aspects of chess, but also one of the most difficult to master. Everyone loves a good old-fashioned king hunt, especially when it leads to checkmate, but often the pressure is very much on the aggressor - one false move and the attack can often fizzle out into less than nothing, leaving the attacker with an empty shell of a position.

Fighting the Anti-Sicilians: Combating 2 c3, the Closed, Bb5 lines, the Morra Gambit and other tricky ideas (Everyman Chess) (Paperback) by Richard Palliser (August 1, 2007)

Review

‘Simply masterful’
Grandmaster Glenn Flear reviewing Palliser’s earlier work Tango! for New In Chess

‘Palliser is an admirably reliable guide.’
British Chess Magazine’s review of Palliser’s Bb5 Sicilian

Product Description

The Sicilian Defence is by far Black’s most popular answer to 1 e4 at all levels of chess. The reason is easy to understand: from the very first move Black unbalances the position and can play for a win without needing to take unjustified risks. This is particularly the case with the Open Sicilians, where Black can take comfort in the fact that his superior pawn structure ensures control of the centre and excellent long term chances.

Faced this with type of problem, along with the fact that many Open Sicilians carry with them a massive build-up of opening theory, it’s unsurprising that many White players prefer to avoid the Open Sicilian altogether, preferring one of the many ‘Anti-Sicilians’ lines on offer.

Product Description
According to an Indian saying, the game of chess is a sea in which a mosquito can drink and an elephant can bathe. To which many chess players would surely like to add: ‘And in which it’s very easy to drown in the middle game!’ In contrast to the opening or the endgame, the middle game seems to offer little in the way of concrete starting-points for methodical study. In Power Chess with Pieces former world championship candidate Jan Timman shows the way through the fascinating maze of the middle game. What, after all, is the point of getting an advantage in the opening if you don’t know how to exploit this advantage? On the basis of countless examples encountered in his rich chess career, Jan Timman deals with themes like ‘strong knight against bishop’ and the ‘dominant bishop pair’. How is one to proceed when one emerges from the opening with a strong knight and one’s opponent is stuck with a bad bishop? And is the bishop pair really as strong as they say? And how can one put this asset to maximum use? Or, conversely, how can one contain the damage if the roles are reversed? With his lucid style and practical approach, Timman follows in the footsteps of his teachers Max Euwe and Mikhail Botvinnik. Power Chess with Pieces is a book that will delight and instruct enthusiastic beginner and seasoned club player alike.
