Hi friends,

today I've worked on a program which has nothing to do with chess: xplorer 2
It's a Windows explorer replacement and should be quite powerful. I've not yet worked much with this program (except making a patch for it ), but maybe some here know (or already use) it.

It says it would be the 'Trial' version, but of course after my 'improvement' it is in fact no trial version anymore:

Just install the program (it automatically installs either the ANSI or the Unicode version depending on your Windows OS), unzip my patch into the xplorer2 folder and run Patch.bat: everything is done automatically, it finds the correct version and also the right language file (if you installed an additional language).

The included Uninst.bat can be used after an usual uninstallation (to remove all traces of xplorer2 from the registry and the Windows folder), or if you want to reset the program back to its default settings.

Well, maybe you'll also find this program interesting ...

You should add in the first post that the patch is valid for 1.8.0.1 version

PPS
In the package I also added a serial to enter at the end of installation.
Remember that the program has some checks and that in some days (that's why CBF patch is needed) it would discover that the serial is generated by a keygen and that it is not original... so patch it.

Well, it seems that my work on xplorer2 was just a waste of time (and that was quite much time)!

Today I've found a new link on a warez site for this new xplorer2 version, which includes a keygen, and this keygen seems in fact to work perfectly. I've tried it a few times with dates set many years forward to the future, and it worked in all cases!

And this is my conclusion: never spend any time in cracking a program which is of general interest - just wait a few days and some professional crackers will do the job for you!

The ZWT keygen doesn't work, that's why a patch is needed (and that's why I asked you).
The keys generated by ZWT keygen (like all those from version 1.7.2.4 except EMBRACE for v. 1.7.1.4) seem to work at first, even if you go ahead in time, but xplorer2 checks "something" randomly in time and when it sees that the keygen is not original the program crashes.
This happen regularly within some days... one week at most after installation

I'm telling you because I have tested that keygen and after 3 days xplorer2 crashed.

Your work was not in vain, believe me

Well protoc, I still don't believe you!

Xplorer2 doesn't have any 'internal' timer, it just uses the PC's timer of course. So if I change the date/time (and I have done this at least 10 times), xplorer2 must think that several weeks/months/years should have passed, and this 'random crash' should already have happened during my tests ... but it didn't.

Maybe you have used an older keygen, the one from this new package is from 3.Sept.2009 ...

Even if the keygen is working perfectly I'd prefer the patch . I don't know about this particular software but in general fewer registry entries are there the better . More importantly the keygen may work beautifully but it would not be from you .

I don't even consider myself as being in the same league as those here who are truely "qualified" and "experienced" in these matters of "applying medicines" ; but I can say that I have used this keygen that CBF discovered on Warez, for my version 1.7.2.3 since April of this year [8 months now, on a daily basis] ..... and still the keygenerated serial and the program function beautifully with no probs ! Go figure !

P.S. Edit : By the way CBF, that RS link you provided has allready been knocked down by RS ! That didn't take long !

Ya see ..... I'm really showing my ignorance in these matters I merely saw the same icon on each keygen and deducted they were one and the same ..... I'm still learning and stand corrected !

Oops, it seems that the program expects the resource numbers in the right order, and since I just renumbered the resource of this 'not registered' window to zero, the program gets a bit confused.
I've now rearranged this resource table and everything seems to work now, here's the new patch:

(don't forget to undo the previous buggy patch before applying the new one!)

In fact I don't like these resource modifications very much, but since xplorer2 doesn't run in a debugger (OllyDbg), I just couldn't find the right place where this 'not registered' window is opened, so removing its resource was the only chance I had (otherwise I would have to scan through the whole program code).
Maybe I'll find a better method anytime in the future, but until then the current patch should work ...

But of course I do it only with programs that are of some interest for me.

Compliments, if you could transpose my old patch to the new update you're really good!

A few further remarks:
1) if the new installer makes problems, then use 'Uninst.bat' from my previous patch to remove all traces of the last version before re-installing the update
2) if this procedure still doesn't work, you can simply extract all files from the installer with 7-Zip
3) and finally I would rather NOT use any language file which hasn't been updated (i.e. which has a filedate before Feb. 2010), because there are some new features in 1805 which won't appear in the menus of older language files!

Since they are updating Xplorer2 so often I thought it would be more comfortable to create an universal xp2Patch (similar to my CB-Patch) than searching for the right patch-patterns manually for every new update.

So here's this universal Xplorer2 patch:

This one should now also work for future versions.

Before using it restore the original version by running the previous Patch.bat again, then you can delete the old files (Patch.bat, Patcher.exe, Patch1/2.dat) and use this new xp2Patch.exe.

that's exactly the only personalization I made to "my" version (and was about to tell you)... I like seeing the serial number and the registration date that changes everyday
