Hi friends,

today I've worked on a program which has nothing to do with chess: xplorer 2
It's a Windows explorer replacement and should be quite powerful. I've not yet worked much with this program (except making a patch for it ), but maybe some here know (or already use) it.

It says it would be the 'Trial' version, but of course after my 'improvement' it is in fact no trial version anymore:

Just install the program (it automatically installs either the ANSI or the Unicode version depending on your Windows OS), unzip my patch into the xplorer2 folder and run Patch.bat: everything is done automatically, it finds the correct version and also the right language file (if you installed an additional language).

The included Uninst.bat can be used after an usual uninstallation (to remove all traces of xplorer2 from the registry and the Windows folder), or if you want to reset the program back to its default settings.

Well, maybe you'll also find this program interesting ...

I know xplorer2, but I use freeCommander for about two years: www.freecommander.com
It is a very good free explorer. Maybe you like it.

Oops, it seems that the program expects the resource numbers in the right order, and since I just renumbered the resource of this 'not registered' window to zero, the program gets a bit confused.
I've now rearranged this resource table and everything seems to work now, here's the new patch:

(don't forget to undo the previous buggy patch before applying the new one!)

In fact I don't like these resource modifications very much, but since xplorer2 doesn't run in a debugger (OllyDbg), I just couldn't find the right place where this 'not registered' window is opened, so removing its resource was the only chance I had (otherwise I would have to scan through the whole program code).
Maybe I'll find a better method anytime in the future, but until then the current patch should work ...

Well Trini, it's just a bit of all that you've mentioned.
But of course I do it only with programs that are of some interest for me.
Unfortunately these (my) interests are just a crap for some others ...

As I downloaded your "crappy" programs perhaps you could say what was the matter? Incorrect fix? Searching for a better way to implement the fix which meets with your undeniably high standards?

Who said the program was crappy anyway? No-one in this thread did that!

This time I've modified my patch a bit so that patching any language files is no longer necessary.
(BTW, not all language files have been updated for this new version)

Compliments, if you could transpose my old patch to the new update you're really good!

A few further remarks:
1) if the new installer makes problems, then use 'Uninst.bat' from my previous patch to remove all traces of the last version before re-installing the update
2) if this procedure still doesn't work, you can simply extract all files from the installer with 7-Zip
3) and finally I would rather NOT use any language file which hasn't been updated (i.e. which has a filedate before Feb. 2010), because there are some new features in 1805 which won't appear in the menus of older language files!

I'm not "really good" since the new 1.8.0.6 (that fixes only some problems with the translations) has a completely new "body" and I cannot find the proper locations to fix

BTW an 1.8.0.7 bugfix version is out, just patched "by hand" following your 1.8.0.6 philosophy and it works
